Questions

Common questions

What is Putopia?

A media player for content you already own or subscribe to. It reads the files in your own put.io storage and, if you connect one, your own IPTV subscription, and presents both as a single library. Putopia ships no channels, no playlists, and no media of its own.

Do I need a put.io account?

Yes, your own. Putopia signs in to put.io with your account and reads what is already in your storage. It cannot supply files, and it does not upload, move, or delete anything unless you ask it to.

Do I need an IPTV subscription?

No. IPTV is optional. If you already have an Xtream Codes or M3U subscription you can add its address and credentials to get live TV, the guide, movies, and series next to your put.io files. Without one, Putopia works as a put.io library on its own.

Does Putopia come with channels, films, or series?

No. Everything in the app comes from a source you connected yourself. We do not supply, host, or resell content of any kind.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. It is one universal app, with an interface built for each platform.

Do I need to create a Putopia account?

No. Putopia has no sign-up and no user accounts. The only credentials involved are the ones for your own put.io account and your own IPTV provider, and those stay in the device Keychain.

Where do the posters, genres, and cast lists come from?

Putopia looks up public film and television metadata for the titles in your library. It is a one-way, read-only lookup — no personal information about you is uploaded in the process. See the privacy policy for the detail.

Can I watch without a connection?

Yes. Download a title to the device first and it will play offline. Downloads live on the device and count against its storage.

Can more than one person use the same device?

Yes. Profiles give each person their own favourites and their own continue-watching list.

Does it remember where I stopped?

Yes. Watch progress follows you, so you can stop on one device and pick the title up on another.

What formats does it play?

4K and HDR video, MKV containers, and multichannel audio. When a track cannot be played directly on the device, Putopia falls back automatically rather than refusing the file.

How do I set up a new device?

Copy your existing setup across. Both devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi network; the first one shows a short one-time code, you enter it on the second, and your sources, profiles, and settings come over. The transfer is end-to-end encrypted.

How do I remove my data?

Sign out, or delete the app. That removes the stored credentials from the device Keychain. Because there is no Putopia account, there is nothing held on our side to delete.

How do I report a bug or ask for a feature?

Email chris@gobizhelp.com. Both go to the same place, and detail helps — see the list at the top of this page for what to include.

Troubleshooting

If something isn't working

Most problems come from one of the two connected sources rather than from the player. These are the checks worth running first.

put.io sign-in fails, or the library is empty
  • Confirm you can sign in at put.io in a browser on the same network. An expired or revoked access token is the usual cause.
  • Sign out of put.io in Putopia and sign in again to issue a fresh token.
  • Check the files are actually in that put.io account — Putopia can only show what is already there.
  • Refresh the library. Newly added files do not always appear until the next fetch.
A title won't start, or playback stops part way through
  • Try a different title. If everything stalls, the problem is the connection or the source; if only one file does, it is that file.
  • 4K and high-bitrate files need real bandwidth. On a weak connection, download the file first and play it from the device.
  • On an IPTV source, check whether your provider limits how many streams can run at once — another device may be holding the slot.
No sound, or the wrong audio track
  • Open the audio track picker during playback and choose another track. Files often carry several.
  • Multichannel audio needs an output that supports it. On a device or speaker that does not, let Putopia fall back rather than forcing the original track.
  • Check the device is not muted or routed to another AirPlay output.
The IPTV source won't connect
  • Re-enter the server address, username, and password exactly as your provider issued them. A trailing slash or a missing port is the most common cause.
  • Confirm the subscription is active and not already at its device or connection limit.
  • Some providers restrict access by network or region. If it connects on one network and not another, ask your provider about that first.
  • Putopia is not affiliated with any IPTV provider and cannot reset, renew, or troubleshoot your subscription on your behalf.
The guide is empty, or programmes show at the wrong time
  • Guide data comes from your IPTV provider, not from Putopia. If the provider sends none for a channel, that channel has no listing.
  • Times are shown in the device's time zone. Check the device clock is set to the right zone and to update automatically.
  • Refresh the source. Providers publish new guide data on their own schedule, often once a day.
A download won't finish
  • Check there is free storage on the device. Downloads stop when it runs out.
  • Keep the device awake and on Wi-Fi while a large download runs.
  • Delete the partial download and start it again — a resumed transfer that keeps stalling rarely recovers.
The transfer code from another device doesn't work
  • Both devices have to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Codes are one-time and short-lived. If it has been sitting on screen for a while, generate a new one and enter it promptly.
  • Guest and captive-portal networks often block devices from seeing each other. Try a home network.
A title has the wrong poster or description
  • Titles are matched against a public metadata catalogue, so an ambiguous file name can match the wrong entry.
  • Renaming the file in put.io so the title and year are unambiguous, then refreshing the library, usually corrects it.
  • If it still matches wrongly, email us the file name and we'll take a look.
